Father God, today I pray for our children. This month marks the beginning of school, and many of us are sending our babies into new classrooms, with new teachers, and new friends. We pray for their safety and joy. We pray You would use the things they learn this year to inspire and grow them, igniting a love for Your world and the amazing ways You’ve designed it.
I pray our children would be a light for You this year. May we teach them, through our example, how to be people of peace. May they grow to see the needs of others and move to meet them. Strengthen them to stand in the truth and to speak with love.
Above everything, Father, may they learn to cling to You in a deeper way this year. Help us teach them what it means to walk in Your ways and love You with all their hearts and with all their souls. In Your Son's name we pray, Amen.

Love and Obedience. These two things go hand-in-ha

Love and Obedience. These two things go hand-in-hand in the Kingdom of God. It sounds so simple, yet I do my very best to over complicate it, especially in my parenting. While I often feel the pressure to complete this massive “Christian Mom” checklist of things to do, I also feel a gentle reminder that those “to dos” should flow out of who I am. Not the other way around.
So I steady myself once again. Slow down. Take a breath. And remember: God calls me to love and obey. Everything else will flow from that.
Let’s keep it simple, Mama. Let’s simply teach our children to love God and obey Him, and watch Him do the rest.

My daughter is going into the third grade this yea

My daughter is going into the third grade this year. I’ve watched her blossom this summer–her legs getting longer, her understanding deeper, and her passion growing brighter. I feel as if I’m catching a glimpse of who God is shaping her to be as an adult, and it’s breathtaking.
I’m also feeling a fresh sense of urgency. Half of our time with her in our home is gone. Am I doing everything I can to prepare her for this world? Am I laying a firm enough foundation for her faith to flourish?
As I turn these questions over in my mind, the Lord has reminded me of Joshua 22:5. There, the Eastern tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had fulfilled their commitment to fight alongside their brothers until the Promised Land was conquered. Now it was time for them to cross back over the Jordan River and inherit their portion. Before they left, however, Joshua gave them one last charge: Love the Lord your God, walk in all His ways, cling to Him, and serve Him with all your heart and soul!
This is such a beautiful commission. It reminds me that while there is much we want to teach our children, the most important thing we can teach them is to love, obey, and serve the Lord. Everything else will flow from that. And the best way to teach them? Living it out ourselves. I am sure we will live it out imperfectly, but I am also sure God’s goodness and mercy will follow us, filling in the gaps with His grace.
