Just like me, my kids LOVE ice cream! It’s one of the treats we crave most. This weekend I’m going to plan a special sundae date with my boys. As we eat, I’m going to tell them how God’s love is even better than ice cream. It’s just a simple way for me to tangibly teach them 1 Peter 2:2. Dear Lord, Thank you that you satisfy everything

Dear Lord,
Thank you that you satisfy everything our soul longs for. Please help us be mamas who focus our longings and cravings on You, knowing that You alone offer abundant life. Please diminish our cravings for the things of this world, and help us to see that those things will not quench our spiritual hunger. Let us continue to grow into our salvation so our children will see mamas who love you purely and wholly. Thank you for being so good and thank you for being enough. In Jesus’ Name,

My four-year-old is notorious for refusing to try

My four-year-old is notorious for refusing to try things on his plate at dinner. We have a “one bite rule,” meaning he has to eat at least one bite of everything. Last week he put up quite a fuss about eating a bite of zucchini. When he finally did, he said it was delicious and proceeded to eat all of it! I think we often have the same problem when we approach God’s Word. It can feel burdensome and challenging, and not necessarily fun and exciting. But God tells us that when we get a taste of Him, we will see how GOOD He is. This week, read something that you find especially exciting or meaningful in the Bible. Think of it as a personal letter God sent to you and relish His goodness as you taste and see! Press on, Mama,

As an infant, my youngest ate every two hours like

As an infant, my youngest ate every two hours like clockwork. When he was just a few weeks old, I had to run an errand. I knew I’d be pushing his feeding schedule, but thought I could make it home just in time for his next feeding. I was a few blocks from our house when he let out the most pitiful cry I had ever heard. He needed milk and needed it NOW. I pulled over to nurse him in a Best Buy parking lot, less than a mile from home. Around this time, 1 Peter 2:2 popped up on my Bible verse app. I chuckled at how relevant God made His Word to me. No one understands this verse better than the mother of a newborn! While it was humorous, it has continued to serve as a great reminder about the passion we need for God’s Word. If I’m being honest with myself, there are many days when my desire for God’s Word doesn’t pass the 1 Peter 2:2 test. I don’t always find myself craving spiritual things like my son wanted his milk. The second half of this verse explains that God calls us to this longing for our benefit. As we nourish ourselves with the things of God, we grow stronger and more mature. I have found the more regularly I read God’s Word, the more I want to read it. So the next time you go through a cluster feeding phase or see a ravenous four-year-old demolish the pantry, let it be a tangible reminder of the hunger God placed in your soul for Him. Fill it up, Mama! Press on, Mama!
