We are talking a lot about keeping our minds “stayed” on God. This clip shows my hand lettering process. I start with a loose pencil sketch and move toward a more cohesive design. Once my pencil drawing is how I want the verse to appear, I commit with ink! The last part of the process involves scanning, cleaning up on the computer, and publishing the final piece. The process involves a great deal of time meditating on the Scripture, choosing which words to highlight, and thinking about how the verse impacts me on a spiritual level. I usually have the verse memorized by the time it is completed, and I have spent a good amount of time focusing on Scripture rather than stressors. How can you take the things you love to do (going for walks, journaling, reading, painting, etc.) and use them to help you focus on God?

Father, You know the difficult season we are going

Father, You know the difficult season we are going through here on earth. I’m so glad that You have a better view than I do -- a view that sees each person’s struggles and shortcomings and still sees them with Your unconditional love. I ask that You would bring peace to each mama today. Help us to lay our burdens down, to rest in the idea that You see and care about us more than we could ever imagine, and to keep our minds stayed on You when we struggle to find peace. Amen.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

Mama, what are you facing that needs God’s perfect peace? Maybe this has been a crazy year so far and it might be hard to name just one -- that’s ok! Let’s take some time to encourage each other with Scripture today.

Isaiah 26:3 is the verse we chose for our son when

Isaiah 26:3 is the verse we chose for our son when we dedicated him at church. Before he was born, I read this verse and applied it to anxiety about my upcoming labor. I didn’t know it then, but this verse would become significant for Eli’s life and also mine. When Eli was about 18 months old, he experienced some health problems related to an issue he carried from the womb. I battled anxiety over his health for many months and claimed this verse every time I was tempted to take my mind off God.
I saw God’s hand in all the details of Eli’s health journey. He protected him in the scariest moments and healed him through surgery. When I look back, I see how God was in control the whole time. It shows me why we can have perfect peace in Christ. He is unsurprised by anything that comes our way. He is steady and constant and full of love for us and our children.
Now Eli is almost 7 and full of energy. He loves to pick up rocks and keep them in his pocket so he can take them everywhere he goes. Isaiah 26:4 says we can trust in God “forever” because He “is an everlasting rock.” Just like the rocks in my son’s pocket, God is with us all the time -- in the darkness of night while we care for our little ones and in the light of day when we face life’s trouble. He will never be moved or shaken by our circumstances. His perfect peace is waiting for us when we keep our thoughts fixed on Him.
