New Mercies for Moms was born out of necessity. We were caught in the day-to-day of nursing babies and corralling toddlers. It was a lot of looking down at the two-foot-tall balls of energy we helped to create and figuring out what in the world we were doing as their moms. Looking up to Jesus, growing spiritually, and nurturing a daily walk with God were difficult. The three of us have leaned on each other through a lot of hard mothering moments and an equal amount of joys, but our bond has been the desire to walk with the Lord no matter what circumstances we face. And we are always thinking about you – how can we help YOU press on in your own spiritual development?

In Philippians 3, Paul was much more focused on his future with Jesus than his past without Him. Once He met Jesus, everything changed! He counted “everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus.” (Phil 3:8)

With words like “press on” and “straining,” you can imagine the posture of Paul’s life. His goal is to be found in Christ, to be found following Christ, and to be found living for eternity with Christ.

Back to motherhood: We see you, mama! Our toddlers have become kindergarteners and third graders. Still, we spend a lot of time looking down at soccer balls being kicked around on Saturdays at the fields, looking down at the work before us that helps support our families and looking through the fridge for what we are going to feed the herd for dinner. So the encouragement stays the same! Even though much of what we do as mamas is downward-focused, we can do it with upward purpose – the heavenly call of Jesus.
