As a football coach, my husband’s job is to teach his players how to take a hit. He gives them protective pads and knowledge of the game, but he knows they’ll get tackled. His goal is for them to be ready for it.
Like a coach, we know that while we do our best to prepare and protect our children, they will experience pain in this life. But they don’t have to fear it.
We can show them how pain, which was meant for evil, can be used for good. We can train them to fight from a place of rest, knowing the true hope of this life. Finally, we can teach them that enduring pain means more than muddling through. It’s being brave enough to bare our weaknesses, revealing Christ’s strength within us.

Miles Kington once said, “Knowledge is knowing tomatoes are a fruit, wisdom is not putting them in a fruit salad.” There is a big difference between knowing something and knowing how to use it.
As we train our children to make their faith their own, we must teach them to have wisdom. One of the best ways to foster wisdom is to not only teach them to read and memorize Scripture, but how to apply it to their lives.
Talk with them about situations that come up. Find answers in the Bible together. Teach them to live out the Word of God in whatever situation they are facing. This simple practice will develop a spirit of wisdom within them, enabling them to walk in God’s ways no matter what life brings.

As I look around this broken world, my first instinct is to wrap my kids in bubble wrap. But Christ doesn’t offer them bubble wrap- he offers them His armor. His goal isn’t merely to protect our children, but to prepare them. And, Mama, guess who He’s made drill sergeant?
Our holy calling as parents is to prepare our kids for the battles they will face as they make their faith their own.
One day, we will let our arrows fly. But we do not send them out alone. Christ goes before them. We can trust God with their earthly lives because He has secured their eternal life.

Has anyone ever told you to “let go and let God”? Those words terrify me! However, I DO want to loosen my grip on controlling my world -- of trying to hold things together myself -- and to spend more time resting in God – the One who holds it all together.
The more I get into the nitty-gritty of what it means to trust God, the more I realize I have some real control issues!
It’s not easy for me to let go of worry or to stop working, but if I redirect my energy to intentionally resting in the One who holds it all together, my actions become worship. Putting down my phone to go on a walk with my family or getting away for the weekend are ways that help me intentionally set down my worries and to enjoy God.

Picture me with my hands full—my work backpack slung over my shoulder while holding the kids’ lunch kits, my purse, and my morning coffee! On top of it all, I’m often bearing the emotional weight of the latest news story. It’s hard to keep it all together!
As a mom navigating life in a broken world, Colossians 1:17 is a lifeline. It’s a reminder of Jesus’s sovereignty and a promise that He knows what’s ahead. He is before all things, Mama,nd, He holds it all together.
It can be hard to trust God when you’re raising young kids in an unstable world. But I believe we can take God at His word and rest in his promises.
