My daily routine involves picking up my daughter from day school at 2:30, then picking up my son at 3:30. When I pick up Cora, she gives me the biggest grin and plows over anything in her way to run and hug me. After a stressful day of work, this greeting leaves me feeling like all is right in the world. As soon as Eli hops in the car from the pick-up line, I ask him about his day. The car ride home with both kids is short, but in that little window, I am just so happy we are together.
When I think about eternity, it’s hard to comprehend what it will be like to be WITH God, but I think these moments with my kids are a glimpse of heaven. Galatians 4 says that through Christ, we are redeemed and we receive adoption as sons (and daughters). God has a Father’s love for His children. Someday, I will get to experience God’s presence face-to-face. If it is anything like my experience with my earthly family, it will involve running to the One who loves me the most and sitting in His presence without stress, separation, or anything else standing in the way.
While we are still here working hard to raise children, let us remember the love that our Father has for us. It is a perfect love. It is intense, pure, caring, freeing, peace-giving, patient, unconditional, forgiving, complete, and all we need. As I begin to grasp the depth of God’s love for me, it helps me love my children like God loves me and enables them to comprehend God’s love.
