As our world gets tougher, the hope I have through Jesus as my Savior is what sustains me. It’s the banner I raise over my life. But when I look at my life, I don’t feel like it overflows with faith-filled, courageous living. Sometimes it feels like the hope flag is flying over a giant mess. Even so, my anthem is hope.
I take for granted the privilege I have of knowing how God saved the world. I know the miraculous story of Jesus. Hebrews 11 is full of faith stories of real-life people who trusted God without knowing how His rescue plan was going to work out. I get to read the stories in the Old Testament mentioned in Hebrews 11, and I get to know Jesus.
And yet, my faith still wavers. I think it has a lot to do with my perspective. When I make it my goal to live each day centered on the hope I have in Christ, the hard, disappointing issues of life don’t seem so hopeless. Instead, they become opportunities to dig in and live with conviction (another translation calls it assurance). The assurance of whose I am and where I will spend eternity makes living by faith possible.
Mama, my challenge for you this week is to look for where God is at work in your life. It could be in your home, at your job, out in nature, or in the carpool line. Write it down in a journal, so the unseen can be seen in your life—and let that produce faith. With that faith—no matter how small—press on in hope!
